Wherefore say unto them, Thus saith the Lord GOD; Ye eat with the blood, and lift up your eyes toward your idols, and shed blood: and shall ye possess the land? <\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n Act 15:20, 29 But that we write unto them, that they abstain from pollutions of idols, and from<\/i> fornication, and from<\/i> things strangled, and from<\/i> blood. . . . That ye abstain from meats offered to idols, and from blood, and from things strangled, and from fornication: from which if ye keep yourselves, ye shall do well. Fare ye well. <\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n Act 21:25 As touching the Gentiles which believe, we have written and<\/i> concluded that they observe no such thing, save only that they keep themselves from things<\/i> offered to idols, and from blood, and from strangled, and from fornication.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n Nearly all meat that is available from the typical sources has blood in it. It would be very rare to find kosher meat in a grocery store or meat market.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n The blood is the substance that maintains life; it also has all the hormones, diseases, poisons, etc. that make the animal what it is\u2014aggressive, sick, etc. Don’t take animal life (the blood) into yourself; you will take on the animal’s characteristics. Take Christ’s flesh and blood into your life; take on His characteristics and the supernatural life He provides. (John 6:53-58)<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n Fat is the body’s storage system; it is the surplus beyond actual body needs. But, like the blood, it contains many harmful and detrimental substances–hormones, poisons, cholesterol, etc. It represents prosperity, the best, finest, richest (Gen. 45:18); but also excess, obesity, sluggishness, laziness (Deut. 32:15; Ezek. 16:49). A fat animal is not active and healthy, and tends to be selfish; don’t take on those characteristics.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n The Gentiles were accustomed to eat the flesh of animals that has been strangled, while the Jews had been divinely instructed that when beasts were killed for food, particular care was to be taken that the blood should flow from the body; otherwise the meat would not be regarded as wholesome. God had given these injunctions to the Jews for the purpose of preserving their health. The Jews regarded it as sinful to use blood as an article of diet. They held that the blood was the life, and that the shedding of blood was in consequence of sin. <\/i><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n The Gentiles, on the contrary, practiced catching the blood that flowed from the sacrificial victim and using it in the preparation of food. The Jews could not believe that they ought to change the customs they had adopted under the special direction of God. Therefore, as things then stood, if Jew and Gentile should attempt to eat at the same table, the former would be shocked and outraged by the latter. <\/i> AA 191, 192<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n We do not mark out any precise line to be followed in diet. There are many kinds of wholesome food. But we do say that flesh meat is not the right food for God’s people. It animalizes human beings. In a country such as this, where there are fruits, grains, and nuts in abundance, how can one think that he must eat the flesh of dead animals? <\/i> CD 390<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n Will the people who are preparing to become holy, pure, and refined, that they may be introduced into the society of heavenly angels, continue to take the life of God’s creatures and subsist on their flesh and enjoy it as a luxury? From what the Lord has shown me, this order of things will be changed, and God’s peculiar people will exercise temperance in all things. Those who subsist largely upon flesh cannot avoid eating the meat of animals which are to a greater or less degree diseased. The process of fitting animals for market produces in them disease; and fitted in as healthful manner as they can be, they become heated and diseased by driving before they reach the market. The fluids and flesh of these diseased animals are received directly into the blood, and pass into the circulation of the human body, becoming fluids and flesh of the same. Thus humors are introduced into the system. And if the person already has impure blood, it is greatly aggravated by the eating of the flesh of these animals. The liability to take disease is increased tenfold by meat eating. The intellectual, the moral, and the physical powers are depreciated by the habitual use of flesh meats. Meat eating deranges the system, beclouds the intellect, and blunts the moral sensibilities. We say to you, dear brother and sister, your safest course is to let meat alone. <\/i> 2T 63, 64<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n
